Each month, we celebrate one of our talented linguists in recognition of their expertise, dedication and contribution to delivering exceptional results for our clients.
This month, it’s only our very own Senior Welsh Language Officer and in-house Welsh translator, Sarah Boyd!
A native Welsh and English speaker, Sarah studied BA French & Italian, with experience living and studying abroad, before going on to achieve a distinction in her Master’s in Translation Studies. Through her travels and time studying, she has also developed further expertise across several other European languages including Spanish and German. Since joining BLS in 2017, Sarah has combined quality management with translation and proofreading skills, specialising in marketing, advertising and literary texts and using her keen eye for detail to uphold the high standards expected at BLS.
Sarah’s expertise has also been recognised by Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, where she was awarded the Berwyn Prize for the best translation from Welsh into English in the 2024 examinations. The prize is awarded to the most promising candidate for translation into English Foundation Membership, with examiners considering the work of all candidates who sat the spring and autumn examinations throughout the year.
For Sarah, one of the best things about working in translation is the incredible variety. From tackling creative marketing slogans to supporting clients with urgent deadlines, every day brings a new challenge.
When she’s not immersed in languages, you’ll usually find her planning a wedding, taking on an ambitious DIY project, discovering a new restaurant, cooking up something delicious or heading to a live music gig.
