30 Years of Expertise in Trusted Russian Translation Services
Russian is the seventh most-spoken language worldwide, with around 260 million speakers, and is the most spoken native language in Europe. It is the official language of Russia and also remains an official language in many countries of the former Soviet Union, including Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
Russian is also commonly used as a lingua franca (language of communication) in many countries in eastern Europe (including Ukraine and Moldova), the Caucasus (including Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), central Asia (including Uzbekistan and Mongolia), and to a lesser extend in the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). Additionally, Russian is an official language of many multinational organisations, including the United Nations, UNESCO, the World Health Organization and the World Bank. As a result, translation to and from Russian is an essential tool for businesses wishing to trade on the global stage and expand their global reach.
At Business Language Services, we have an expert team of Russian linguists and have over 30 years of experience providing high-quality translations to and from Russian, as well as many other language services.

Our Translation Services
We offer a wide range of language services involving Russian, including:
Regional variation in Russian
Russian is a highly standardised language, with minimal variation in its written form across Russia. Some linguists distinguish three spoken dialects, referred to as ‘northern’, ‘central’ (or ‘middle’) and ‘southern’, with the Moscow dialect upon which the standard variety is based lying in the central region. These dialects only exhibit a handful of differences in pronunciation and grammar that reflect influences from other related and geographically neighbouring languages, such as Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian and Macedonian.
Use of Russian for countries other than Russia
Due to Russia’s and the former Soviet Union’s turbulent geopolitical history, translation into Russian requires particular cultural sensitivity, especially if the target market is not Russia itself.
In the past, it was common to produce translations in Russian for other countries besides Russia where it is widely spoken. However, in recent years, many former Soviet countries have removed Russian’s status as an official language and now favour their own local languages, as a way to highlight their independence. Therefore, particularly for marketing translations, if your target market is not specifically or exclusively Russia, we would recommend also providing translations in the specific local language of the country or countries you are targeting.
Common languages that complement Russian include Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Macedonian and Uzbek. We can provide translation, interpreting and many other language services for all of these languages in addition to Russian.
