Italian Translation Services

Business Language Services is a leading language service provider, based in Cardiff and supporting businesses in South Wales and around the world. We specialise in professional Italian translation (both English to Italian and Italian to English translation). We offer in-house expertise in Italian, so you can be sure that your Italian language projects are in safe hands. We have an extensive network of highly experienced, fully qualified, professional Italian translators. What’s more, all of our Italian translations are reviewed by a second, independent linguist.

We are a Corporate Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and a Full Member of the Association of Translation Companies (ATC). We are proud to have been granted ISO 9001:2008 certification and we operate in accordance with all corresponding quality standards and guidelines.

In addition to our highly experienced in-house team of linguists, we work with a select group of specialised translators, all of whom have experience in Italian translation, editing and proofreading. We work hard to forge strong relationships with our freelance translators, and are proud to have collaborated with many of them for more than a decade. All freelance translators working with BLS have to fulfil stringent criteria, which includes passing at least one test translation. Furthermore, all translation work is subject to regular, ongoing review and quality assessment.

More Information

English to Italian translation is one of Business Language Services’ specialisms and, as such, we have a wealth of experience translating all manner of texts. We work closely with several companies, providing them with regular, consistent translations into Italian on a wide variety of subjects. We translate ingredients and allergen warnings for a well-known and well-loved potato crisp producer, we translate sizeable technical manuals and corresponding software strings for several large industrial manufacturers, and we translate educational materials for a company specialising in the publication of teaching resources.

Many of our Italian translation projects have extended over a period of months. Our Project Managers are very experienced in overseeing long-running projects and ensuring a high-quality output every time, and crucially maintaining linguistic and schematic consistency throughout. We really understand how best to coordinate projects lasting several months, and those which include multiple files and are complex in nature. At BLS, we are proud of the flexible approach we take to our customers’ projects; for example we can work with a huge variety of file formats including all MS Office programs, HTML, InDesign, PDFs and other Adobe software.

We understand that every project is different and, as such, we tailor our approach to suit the individual customer and each specific project. When Business Language Services is assigned a translation job, a dedicated Project Manager oversees the project from start to finish. This Project Manager is a constant point of contact for the customer and keeps in close communication with the translators and reviewers. They also carry out the essential quality checks before final project delivery. All of our Project Managers are professional, qualified translators and are, therefore, extremely well placed to assist and advise on any aspect of the job.

The Italian Language

Italian is spoken as a native language by approximately 70 million people. It is an official language in Italy, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican City, but is also widely spoken across Malta, Croatia, Slovenia, France (especially Corsica) and elsewhere. Derived from Vulgar Latin, it is still the closest Romance language to Latin, particularly in terms of vocabulary.

Italian was first standardised around the early fourteenth century, through Dante Alighieri’s now world-renowned ‘La Divina Commedia’. Until then, there were numerous competing regional schools of literature, as writers would produce works in their own dialects. There are still many different dialects throughout Italy, with each city having its own variation – these are more accurately known as ‘Regional Italian’. Some are recognised as their own language groups, e.g. Sicilian and Venetian, and are often mutually unintelligible. The ‘Accademia della Crusca’ (official legislative body for the Italian language) was founded in Florence in 1583 and the first Italian dictionary was published in 1612.

RAI (Radiotelevisione Italiana) is the Italian equivalent of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) for the UK; the state-owned broadcaster is, with numerous television and radio stations, the biggest television company in Italy. ‘La Repubblica’ is the most widely-read Italian national newspaper.
